INFIINITE HIP-HOP DROPS EXCLUSIVE COLUMN WITH KRISS ANTI-B WHO KICKS IT OFF WITH AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH WIKID....

Wassgud INFIINITE family,It's your boy KRISS ANTI-B,journey with me as we explore&embrace the dopest South African HIP HOP creatives across all the cultures elements from emcees, djs, graffiti writers,breakdancers&hip-hoprenuers.This column we get to hang out&delve into the mind of the Triple OG WIKID.The OG is no stranger to the South African Hip Hop industry, having come up in the LE CLUB '90s hip hop era cyphering&freestyling with South African Hip Hop pioneers like AMU,SNAZZ D,SELYWN,SLIKOUR &more. Then being at the top of the food chain in the mainstream music industry with TOWNSHIP FREQUENCY &releasing his debut album ANGER MANAGEMENT.A multi talented creative with expertise in film&photography&a staunch hip hop activist.WIKID is vocal, outspoken&a custodian of the hip hop culture. We sit down with him for a quick Q&A to find out what inspired the creation of the internet phenomena hashtag #BOOMBAP16CHALLENGE which has brought out many emcees from the OLD SKOOL &NEW SKOOL alike to represent the TRUE SKOOL.Notable names such as PROVERB,LANDMARQUE,SELWYN&WIKID himself have dropped 16bar videos, young hungry emcees have also climbed on the train to drop their contribution to the cause.Based on the viral and serious response to the challenge the masses are hungry for more than what major mainstream media platforms&internet bloggers tell the people "is marketable".The #BOOMBAP16CHALLENGE proves there's a market for so called "REAL HIP HOP" let's see what the OG got to say about that.
WIKID BOOMBAP16CHALLENGE

1.First &foremost greetings from the IHHB family OG,mad respect. We are super stoked to have you on InfiiniteHipHop.The questions on most peoples minds are, what exactly is the Boombap16Challenge,how does one get involved if they wanna do a video, who's involved behind the creation of the movement, what inspired or triggered you to wake up&say fuck it let me start the Boombap16Challenge &did you expect it to go as viral as it did?

WKD:Thanks for having me the BoomBap16Challenge happened by mistake. The video i used was actually for an event i was planning. The event didn't pan out so i decided to use the video for something else,That's how the challenge came about.

2.How do you feel about the state of South African hip hop currently, from an Artistic&business sense,as someone who's experienced it from the beginning at Le Club to the highest level commercially,do you think it's progressed or regressed over the years

WKD:Musically i feel it's gone backwards, simply due to the fact that rappers have become lazy to write. If you take a close look at the #BoomBap16Challenge it has brought out a lot of OGs &young guns who write. That's the market that's being sidelined because apparently it's not "Marketable".In terms of commercial success Hip Hop is bigger than it ever was so that's a plus.

3.What impact are you guys hoping the movement has in shaping, evolving&developing South African&African hip hop industry?

WKD:Basically i want to show people that there's another side to this hip hop thing.Kids who started listening to hip hop through Drake &Lil Wayne don't know this side,i wish to educate them&lastly i want to show there's still a huge market for Boombap.

4.How long is the Boombap16Challenge going to go on? was it a once off thing, are we talking seasonal activities, annually or you guys are planning on building this for longterm purposes?

WKD:Well it's forever, however the are other initiatives that will spark from it.

5.This innovative venture inspired a lot of super dope emcees from the old school &new
school to grab the pen, dope beats&spit pure unadulterated raw hip hop rhymes, some of favourites are Proverb,Selywn&yours 16bars.Are the any plans in the pipeline in doing an audio/visual compilation of the videos&releasing them as a Documentary or a mixtape?

WKD:Well,we'll have to wait &see

6.Your name has been trending on social media since you decided to spark this movement, you have been tagged on a gangload of dope 16bar videos because real hip hop emcees are hungry,i am not sure if you were able to view all of the videos but did you have any emcees genuinely stand out&grab your attention like "wow that kat got mad flava&bars"?

WKD:i view them all actually,a lot have stood out but i won't be mentioning any names

7.Since this is the BOOMBAP CHALLENGE are the any plans of crowning the best verse from all the emcee videos you've received&how are you guys planning on empowering young, hungry&raw emcees you discovered through the challenge to enter the game on a large scale?

WKD:Once again we'll have to wait&see

8.A lot of people know you from Township Frequency,i was a huge fan when Mr Selwyn won the SAMA AWARD for Best Hip Hop &at some point you guys were the biggest South African hip hop movement on a mainstream level alongside Skwatta Kamp,Cashless Society,Hymphatic Thabs &others.Do you think you guys did enough or rather understood enough from a business perspective how to build&run things or where you guys mostly concentrated on the artistic side of things&do you ever feel like your generation of hip hop heads let people that know absolutely nothing about the culture takeover?

WKD:We were learning the business too,but i feel we focused more on music. This generation is doing better interms of business

9.I &a lot of people have been looking for a breath of fresh air in the South African hip hop industry. The BoombapChallenge gave us that, are the any plans or enquiries to take this venture on  mainstream platforms such as commercial radio&tv so as to reach a larger audience beyond social media?

WKD:All i can say is there are plans,i can't say more

10.Some of the questions i asked you were from your fans on my social media when i asked what questions they would like to ask&one person said "When are you dropping your next project kunini silindile" lol...so when is the next WIKID classic dropping king?

WKD:1Well i just finished a collaboration project with FORTUNE called ABOMRAPPER2&we dropping a single soon, watch this space

11.Thank you for your time&response OG.We are truly grateful for giving us this opportunity to talk to you&we are grateful on behalf of independent raw hip hop that you started this movement, goodluck going forward with everything you are planning,godspeed...BOOMBAP16CHALLENGE FOREVER...peace&light.

WKD:Thank you for having me&thank you for the well wishes
